| College of Law Student Carrells Upgrade |
|
When the College of Law wanted to upgrade their student carrrells in the law library they selected Correctional Industries to get the job done. Correctional Industries teaches job-keeping skills to offenders through meaningful work experience. This work experience reduces offenders' idle time during incarceration while preparing them for a successful transition into society.

We have found the program very effective; especially in providing custom designed furniture. The College and Correctional Industries were able to define the desired outcomes, put together design specification, manufacture and install the new carols for a very effective and attractive result.

Meteorological Tower
Earlier this month Lee Vierling took advantage of an excellent opportunity to acquire a meteorological tower for the College of Natural Resources. This 80 ft tower will likely attract scientists from multiple colleges within the university as well as other researchers within our region and state. The primary purpose of the tower is to house instruments that will monitor the functioning of nearby forests. The tower is expected to be installed near Moscow, which will make it convenient for student use and for UI research. Lee commented, "This is an outstanding opportunity for us to continue building our global change teaching and research program at UI because it provides the infrastructure for making trace gas flux measurements over the long term."
Purchasing the tower was a collaborative effort between CNR, Risk, and Purchasing. Risk and Purchasing worked with Lee to quickly provide hime with risk analysis, contracts, and coverage needed for the project. Nancy Spink, Risk Management Officer stated "This is a good example of 'balanced risk'. Our approach was that we were going to make it happen for him, and support the business needs of his project quickly."
